Martin Scorsese reveals the story of a single performance in 1826 that forever changed America’s cultural landscape with the introduction of Italian opera
to the New World.
The original oratorio took place in Scorsese’s childhood church,
a site where successive waves of immigrants have been embraced
with each generation.
This watershed event was lost to history for almost 200 years.
But now the oratorio has been rediscovered and will be re-staged by a visiting Italian opera company, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, under the direction of Maestro Donato Renzetti.
...at this historic crossroads of the Old World and the New.
"This place is just breathing stories and lives long forgotten."
- Martin Scorsese
